Alan W. “Brownie” Brown, 89, of Moline, Illinois, died Friday, April 18, 2025, at Silvis Center, Silvis, Illinois.
Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, under the direction of Trimble Funeral Home. Private burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery.
Alan William Brown was born August 12, 1935, the son of Albert Vasser and Anne (Welter) Brown. He attended Central Missouri State at Warrensburg before transferring to the University of Missouri at Columbia, where he was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. After several years of schooling at Central Texas College and City College of Chicago, he earned his MA in Guidance and Counseling and Secondary School Administration in 1972.
Brownie served 8 ½ years in the U.S. Army. Including some of the time in his service spent overseas, he spent 22 years in total living and working in Europe, including Italy, Sweden, Denmark, England and Germany to name a few.
Alan settled in with his career as an education services officer for the Federal Government, working at the Rock Island Arsenal, retiring in 2000.
Brownie was proud to have been a stunt skier alongside his sister, Katie, at the Lake of the Ozarks.
Alan is survived by his son, Keeth (Dawn Good) Brown of Atlanta, Georgia; nieces, Margaux “Margo” (Cyril) Gray-Afranasyev of Cranford, New Jersey, Nancy (Dan) Gray Frohman of Ashburn, Virginia, and Kim (Neil) Murdoch Smith of Nashville, Tennessee; and special cousin, Debby (Bill) Lombard Power of Rancho Palos Verdes, California. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anne and Al Brown of Kansas City, Missouri; and sisters and brother-in-law, Gretchen Brown (2012) of Kansas City, Katherine Anne (Brown) Gray (2024) and her husband, James F. Gray, of Philadelphia.
