Adela A. Foster, 82, formerly of Moline, Illinois, died Monday, March 5, 2012, at Friendship Manor, Rock Island, Illinois.
Services are 1 p.m. Friday at St. John?s Lutheran Church, 1450 30th Avenue, East Moline, Illinois, with The Reverend Kent Umbarger officiating. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, and Noon to 1 p.m. Friday at the church. Memorials may be made to the church or the Lutheran Hour Broadcast.
The former Adela Albina Hafner was born September 12, 1929, in Alexandria, South Dakota, the daughter of Phillip and Albina Huber Hafner. She graduated from Northern State University,, Aberdeen, South Dakota, in 1952, and married Bruce Foster on August 24, 1952, in Mitchell, South Dakota. He died November 29, 2007. She was an elementary teacher and special reading teacher for Rockridge School District, Edgington, Illinois, for 20 years, retiring in 1987. She previously taught school in Brookings, South Dakota, and Park Forest, Illinois.
She was an active member of St. John?s Lutheran Church, East Moline, where she taught Sunday school and confirmation, and sang in the choir, and belonged to the Altar Guild and the Lutheran Women?s Missionary League. She was a former member of the National and Illinois Education Associations. Her passion was teaching, and she helped many children learn to read, because she herself was an avid reader. She enjoyed gardening, flower arranging, and golf.
Adela is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Gail and Rick Sederquist of Taylor Ridge, Illinois, and Lori and Bill Mariner of Rock Island; two grandsons, Andrew and Michael Sederquist; a sister, Evelyn Buckmeier of Richardson, Texas; and a sister-in-law, Marlene Hafner of St. Paul, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a brother, Elton Hafner.
