Nancy A. DeNess, 86, of Moline, Illinois, died Tuesday, August 7, 2007, in Genesis Medical Center Illini Campus, Silvis, Illinois
Services are 10 a.m. Friday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. Burial is in Riverside Cemetery, Moline. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House or Genesis VNA Hospice.
The former Nancy Ann Gaunt was born January 23, 1921, in Warsaw, Illinois, the daughter of Perry and Henrietta (First) Gaunt. She was raised by her aunts, Minnie Pearson and Mamie First. She married Frank L. DeNess on June 18, 1946, in Chicago. He died August 17, 1995. She had been a keypunch operator at Modern Woodmen of America in the late 1940?s.
Nancy was active in community affairs. She was a charter member of the Moline Junior Women?s Club, Lifetime Member of the East Moline American Legion Auxiliary, and a member of the Riverside United Methodist Church, Moline, Moline Lady Elks, Rock Island County Historical Society, King?s Daughters, Women?s Club of Moline, Tri-City Garden Club, and the American Rose Society. She and her husband planned and cared for the Rose Garden at St. Anthony?s Continuing Care Center. She enjoyed china painting, china doll making and flower arranging.
Nancy is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Virginia and Fred Koontz of Moline; granddaughters and their husbands, Melissa and Paul Ondercin of Syracuse, New York, and Kimberly and Tres Poe of Belleville, Illinois; and great-grandchildren, Elizabetha, Michal, and Robert Ondercin.
Nancy?s family offers many thanks to the nurses and staff of Illini Restorative Care, and the nurses, doctors, and staff of Genesis Medical Center Illini Campus and Genesis VNA Hospice.
